FINAL GALlLEO PROPULSION SYSTEM IN-FLIGHT CHARACTERIZATION

چکیده
The Galileo Retro-Propulsion performed excellently throughout eight-year Galileo Jupiter mission. state-of-the-art, pressure-fed, propulsion system, provided to Module (RPM) the ambitious, The RPM is a bipropellant NASA by the Federal Republic of Germany. Some Galileo RPM pressure transducers drifted linearly versus time since launch. Consumable usage was generally well within specifications, including propellant usage. Maneuver performance continued to be excellent during the orbital tour of Jupiter. No 1O-N thruster thermal instabilities were observed during the mission, likely due to a conservative, pulsemode operating strategy. Apparent performance shifts of the lateral thrusters were detected and remain unexplained. Nearly all Galileo 1O-N thrusters exceeded ground performance thrust k?VdS by 10/. tO !5Yo. The soft-seat pressure regulator, now isolated, exhibited exemplary performance during the Galileo mission. Conversely, oxidizer and fuel check valve performances were out of specification and highly non-repeatable for the three main 400-N engine burns. However, the 400-N engine performances were only slightly impacted, and a highly successful Jupiter Orbit Insertion and orbital tour were realized.

Electric Flight – Potential and Limitations
During the last years, the development of electric propulsion systems is pushed strongly, most notably for automotive applications. For ground based transportation, the system mass is relevant, but of relatively low importance. This paper addresses the application of electric propulsion systems in aeronautics, where all systems are much more constrained by their mass. After comparing different ...
متن کاملEnhancing Aircraft Performance Through Flight / Propulsion System Integration
Aircraft performance enhancement by integrating the propulsion control system with the primary flight control system is demonstrated through two nonlinear flight control design examples. In the first example, high performance aircraft turning performance improvement using engine thrust modulation is demonstrated. In the second example, the flight propulsion system integration is used to achieve...

A semi-empirical control-volume approach to ejector modeling for transient performance prediction is presented. This new approach is motivated by the need for a predictive real-time ejector sub-system simulation for STOVL integrated flight and propulsion controls design applications. Emphasis is laced on discussion of the approximate characterization of the suggests transient flow predictions a...
متن کاملIntelligent Aerodynamic/Propulsion Flight Control For Flight Safety: A Nonlinear Adaptive Approach
This paper presents an intelligent fault tolerant flight control system that blends aerodynamic and propulsion actuation for safe flight operation in the presence of actuator failures. Fault tolerance is obtained by a nonlinear adaptive control strategy based on on-line learning neural networks and actuator reallocation scheme. The adaptive control block incorporates a recently developed techni...
